Biography
French singer-songwriter born Monique Andrée Serf in Paris, Barbara was a defining voice of chanson, writing and performing her own material at the piano with austere intensity. Songs such as 'L'Aigle noir' and 'Ma plus belle histoire d'amour, c'est vous' became permanent standards, and her confessional art shaped generations of French songwriters, male and female alike, before her death in 1997.
