Biography
Basil Kirchin (1927 to 2005) was an English drummer and composer from Blackpool who began at thirteen in his father *Ivor Kirchin*'s big band and became a leading British jazz drummer before abandoning dance music. He wrote film scores and admired library albums such as 'Abstractions of the Industrial North' for #De Wolfe#, then, armed with a Nagra tape recorder, built 'Worlds Within Worlds' from slowed and spliced field recordings and jazz fragments. Long obscure, the work is now recognised as a precursor of ambient music. He lived his later life in Hull.
