Biography
Italian singer-songwriter from Sicily who travelled from the experimental rock of 'Fetus' (1972) and 'Pollution' (1972), made for the #Bla Bla# label, to the literate pop of 'La voce del padrone' (1981), the first Italian album to sell a million copies. Battiato's songs wed philosophy, mysticism and science to immaculate melodies, and his interests ranged across painting, film and opera. He also wrote songs for *Alice*. A unique figure in Italian music, he retired in 2019 and died at his home in Milo in 2021.
