Biography

Formed at Oberlin College in 1986 by Sooyoung Park (bass, vocals) and Jon Fine (guitar), with Orestes Morfín on drums, Bitch Magnet were pioneers of post-hardcore. Their three albums — 'Star Booty' (1988), recorded by *Steve Albini*, 'Umber' (1989) and 'Ben Hur' (1990), all on #Communion Records# — combined abrasive guitars, complex rhythms and Park's commanding bass, influencing the emerging post-rock and math rock scenes. The band split in 1991; a #Temporary Residence Limited# reissue campaign accompanied an original-lineup reunion tour in 2011 and 2012.
