Biography
Blind Blake was the stage name of Bahamian goombay singer and guitarist Blake Alphonso Higgs of Nassau. His #Folkways Records# albums of the early 1950s, including 'A Group of Bahamian Songs' (1951), preserved his sly, syncopated calypsos and made him the Bahamas' musical ambassador. His 'John B. Sail' belongs to the Bahamian song family later carried around the world as 'Sloop John B', most famously by *The Beach Boys*, a measure of his music's long reach.
