Cazuza

Cazuza (1958–1990) was a legendary Brazilian singer, songwriter, and poet who defined 1980s Brazilian rock. He first captured the national consciousness as the charismatic, irreverent frontman of Barão Vermelho, co-writing generational anthems like "Pro Dia Nascer Feliz." Embarking on a solo career, he delivered masterpieces like Ideologia and O Tempo Não Pára, blending raw rock energy with poetic, poignant social critique. An uncompromising icon of artistic freedom, Cazuza became the first major Brazilian celebrity to publicly disclose his HIV-positive status, courageously changing public perceptions of AIDS before his tragic death at age thirty-two.
