Biography
Charming Hostess is the Berkeley and Oakland ensemble led by Jewlia Eisenberg, founded in 1993 at Barrington Hall. It began as a klezmer punk and Balkan funk big band, heard on 'Eat' and 'Punch', then remade itself around three women's voices for #Tzadik Records#. 'Trilectic', 'Sarajevo Blues' and 'The Bowls Project' set demanding texts, from Walter Benjamin to Babylonian incantation bowls, using vocal percussion, handclaps, heartbeat and breath as instruments.
