Biography
Collegium Musicum were a Slovak progressive rock band formed in Bratislava in 1969 by keyboardist Marián Varga and bassist Fedor Frešo. Often compared with *Emerson, Lake & Palmer*, they combined Hammond organ virtuosity, improvisation and adaptations of classical music by Rimsky-Korsakov, Bartók and others. Their 1971 double album 'Konvergencie' is regarded as a cornerstone of Czechoslovak rock. The band split in 1981, later reuniting for concerts until Varga's death in 2017 brought the group to a close.
