Cornelis Vreeswijk

Biography

Cornelis Vreeswijk (1937-1987) was a Dutch-born singer-songwriter who emigrated to Sweden in 1949 and became its national troubadour, writing and singing his own ballads in Swedish from 'Ballader och oförskämdheter' (1964) onward. He was also the great modern interpreter of Bellman and Evert Taube. He died in Stockholm in 1987. An annual Swedish music prize now bears his name, and his songs remain core repertoire at home.
