Biography
Demdike Stare is a Manchester electronic duo formed in 2009 by Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty, named after Elizabeth Southerns, the Pendle witch known as Demdike. Released on Manchester label #Modern Love#, their music builds dark, sample based pieces from cult film soundtracks, library records and obscure vinyl hunted down by Canty, a veteran record collector, and shaped by Whittaker, also one half of *Pendle Coven*. Early releases collected as 'Symbiosis' (2009) and 'Tryptych' (2011) gave way to the more club influenced 'Wonderland' (2016). The duo have also performed a live re-scoring of the 1922 witchcraft film H盲xan.
