DJ Sprinkles

Biography

DJ Sprinkles is the primary house music alias of Terre Thaemlitz, an American-born, Japan-based multimedia producer, writer, and owner of the #Comatonse Recordings# label. Her work as DJ Sprinkles critically explores the forgotten social and political contexts of dance music, focusing on themes of gender, sexuality, class, and race. This approach is exemplified in her acclaimed 2008 album, 'Midtown 120 Blues', which combines deep house rhythms with spoken-word monologues about the genre's origins in queer, transgender, and minority communities. Thaemlitz's DJ sets and productions are known for their deep, melancholic, and politically charged atmosphere, challenging the often apolitical nature of contemporary club culture.
