Biography
Elmore James (1918–1963) was a Mississippi-born blues guitarist and singer whose amplified slide playing earned him the title King of the Slide Guitar. His 1951 recording of 'Dust My Broom' for #Trumpet Records# became a signature hit, and his Chicago-era records for #Chess Records# and #Fire Records#, including 'The Sky Is Crying', made his raw riffing and stirring voice a foundational influence on electric blues and rock. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
