Biography

Formed in Porto Alegre in 1985, Engenheiros do Hawaii became one of the most prominent and intellectually sharp forces in Brazilian rock. Led by multi-instrumentalist, singer, and primary songwriter Humberto Gessinger, the band blended pop-rock energy with progressive influences and highly literate, ironic lyrics that captured the anxieties of youth and politics in post-dictatorship Brazil. They achieved commercial success in the late 1980s and 1990s with landmark albums like A Revolta dos Dândis and O Papa é Pop. Despite frequent lineup changes, Gessinger maintained the band's poetic essence until they went on indefinite hiatus in 2008.
