Biography

Enrique Morente was a Granada cantaor who reshaped flamenco singing from inside the tradition. Orthodox early records in 1967 and 1969 gave way to decades of experiment with poetry, melody and other musics, fiercely resisted by purists and then absorbed into cante itself. 'Omega' from 1996, recorded with *Lagartija Nick* on texts by *Federico García Lorca* and *Leonard Cohen*, remains his best known provocation. He died in Madrid in 2010.
