Eric Matthews

Biography

American musician Eric Matthews, born in Compton, California in 1969, built his reputation on orchestral pop in an era of lo-fi indie rock. A trumpeter trained at a San Francisco conservatory, he co-founded *Cardinal* with *Richard Davies*, whose 1994 debut album is now a baroque pop classic, then released the richly arranged solo albums 'It's Heavy in Here' and 'The Lateness of the Hour' on #Sub Pop#. His breathy vocals, piano, organ and brass arrangements later resurfaced on records including 'Foundation Sounds' and 'The Imagination Stage'.
