Fred Smith

Fred Smith

Fred "Sonic" Smith was an American guitarist and songwriter, celebrated as a foundational figure in proto-punk and hard rock. He co-founded the highly influential Detroit band MC5, whose aggressive sound and radical politics were captured on their seminal live album, 'Kick Out the Jams'. After MC5 disbanded in 1972, he formed Sonic's Rendezvous Band, a revered supergroup of Detroit scene veterans that included members of *The Stooges* and *The Rationals*. Though they only released one single, "City Slang," during their existence, the band's legend grew over time. In 1980, Smith married singer-songwriter *Patti Smith*, and they collaborated on her 1988 album 'Dream of Life', released on #Arista Records#.
