Biography

God were a British experimental band formed in London in 1987 by saxophonist and vocalist Kevin Martin, initially with guitarist Shane Rogan and no fixed line-up. After Martin met *Justin Broadrick* of *Godflesh*, who produced the debut EP 'Breach Birth' in 1990 and then joined, the group settled into a nine-piece fusing industrial metal, noise rock, free jazz and dub, with saxophonists Tim Hodgkinson and *Steve Blake*, bassists Dave Cochrane and Gary Jeff, double bassist John Edwards and drummers Lou Ciccotelli and Scott Kiehl. The band released the live albums 'Loco' in 1991 and 'Consumed' in 1993 around two studio albums, 'Possession' on #Virgin# in 1992 and 'The Anatomy of Addiction' on #Big Cat# in 1994, plus the remix record 'Appeal to Human Greed'. God disbanded in 1996, after which Martin and Broadrick continued together in *Techno Animal* and *Ice*, and Martin later became known as *The Bug*.
