Biography
Gogol Bordello is a New York punk band formed in 1999 by Ukrainian-born singer Eugene Hütz, mixing Romani and Eastern European folk music with punk, dub and Brechtian cabaret. Fiddle, accordion and a multinational lineup power theatrical live shows telling stories of New York's immigrant diaspora. Hütz's own taste was shaped by black-market tapes of *The Birthday Party* and *Einstürzende Neubauten* in his native Ukraine, and by the Romani music he encountered after his family was evacuated following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.
