Biography
Henry Thomas (1874-1930), known as Ragtime Texas, was a Texas country blues songster whose guitar and quills playing is an early model for Texas blues guitar. An itinerant railroad performer from Big Sandy, he recorded for #Vocalion Records# between 1927 and 1929, leaving blues, ragtime, gospel and dance tunes that include 'Fishing Blues' and 'Bull-Doze Blues'. Nothing reliable is known of him after his final session, and most biographers place his death in 1930. His songs were revived in the 1960s by *Bob Dylan*, *Canned Heat*, the *Lovin' Spoonful* and others, securing his place in American roots music.
