Biography
Holocaust is a Scottish metal band from Edinburgh, formed in 1977 and led throughout by guitarist and later singer John Mortimer. Its debut 'The Nightcomers' in 1981 is a landmark of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and *Metallica* covered its song 'The Small Hours'. After the original line-up split, Mortimer rebuilt the band in a more progressive direction for 'The Sound of Souls', 'Hypnosis of Birds', 'Covenant' and 'The Courage to Be', and later returned with 'Elder Gods' in 2019.
