Biography
French hip hop group from Marseille, formed in 1989 by Akhenaton, Shurik'n, Khéops, Imhotep, Kephren and Freeman. Pioneers of French rap, IAM mixed pharaonic and Egyptian imagery with Mediterranean identity and political lyricism. Their '...De la planète Mars' (1991) was the first album released by a French rap group, and 'L'École du micro d'argent' (1997), home to 'Je danse le Mia' era hits and 'Petit frère', became a diamond-selling classic. Freeman departed in 2008; the other five members remain active.
