Ibeyi

Biography

Ibeyi is the French-Cuban musical duo of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz. Their name means "twins" in Yoruba, a language and culture that deeply influences their sound alongside soul, pop, and electronic music. Singing in English, French, Spanish, and Yoruba, they blend traditional chants with modern production from their longtime collaborator Richard Russell of #XL Recordings#. Lisa-Kaindé's soulful piano and lead vocals are complemented by Naomi's command of percussion, including the cajón and batá drums inherited from their father, the late Cuban percussionist *Angá Díaz*. Their music often explores themes of family, spirituality, and social justice, as heard on albums like 'Ibeyi', 'Ash', and 'Spell 31'.
