Idris Ackamoor

A saxophonist, composer, and the founder of the influential spiritual and Afro-jazz ensemble The Pyramids. Ackamoor studied with Cecil Taylor and was a key figure in the 1970s underground free jazz scene. His music is a deep exploration of African rhythms, spiritual jazz, and theatrical performance, often incorporating dance and ritual. After a long hiatus, he re-formed The Pyramids in the 21st century, earning widespread acclaim for albums like 'Shaman!' that connect the legacy of 70s spiritual jazz to a new generation.
