Biography

Ikarus were a short-lived German progressive rock band led by Jochen Petersen, whose saxophones, flute, clarinet and guitar shaped their jazz-tinged sound. Their sole studio album, 'Ikarus' from 1971, favoured long multi-theme compositions, melancholic melody and critical lyrics about human behaviour, including a setting of *Edgar Allan Poe*'s 'The Raven'. With organist Wulf Dieter Struntz, guitarist Manfred Schulz, bassist Wolfgang Kracht, drummer Bernd Schröder and singer Lorenz Köhler completing the line-up, the record became a sought-after obscurity of early German progressive rock.
