Jack Davey

Operating under the moniker Jack Davey, vocalist and songwriter Briana Cartwright is a primary architect of the alternative R&B sound that surfaced in the mid-2000s. As one half of the Los Angeles duo J*DaVeY, she merged the foundational aesthetics of funk, new wave, and soul with forward-thinking electronic production. [6, 8] This synthesis, developed with producer Brook D'Leau, established a blueprint for future-soul and dark R&B, influencing a subsequent generation of artists long after the group's initial emergence on the internet. [6, 10, 11] Her work is defined by its genre-defying texture and its role in expanding the boundaries of contemporary soul music. [10]
