Jeru the Damaja

Biography

Brooklyn rapper Kendrick Jeru Davis, a *Gang Starr Foundation* affiliate whose *DJ Premier*-produced debut 'The Sun Rises in the East' (1994) and its single 'Come Clean' became boom bap landmarks. 'Wrath of the Math' (1996) confirmed his reputation for dense, principled lyricism. He has remained independent since the 1990s, releasing records on his own terms and touring the world as an elder of New York's underground scene.
