Biography
John Phillips (1935-2001) was an American singer-songwriter who led *The Mamas & the Papas*, writing 'California Dreamin'' and 'Monday, Monday' and helping create the Monterey Pop Festival. His 1970 solo album 'John, the Wolf King of L.A.' began a sporadic solo career pursued until his death. His songs and arrangements defined the California sound of the 1960s, and his writing shaped the close-harmony style the group became famous for.
