Kristof Hahn

Kristof Hahn

A German guitarist and composer, Kristof Hahn is a key architect of atmospheric sound, primarily through his non-traditional application of the lap steel guitar. Emerging from Berlin's post-punk scene, he joined the New York band Swans, where his drone-oriented and textural playing became integral to the group's evolving sonic immensity. His work often favors vast, layered soundscapes over conventional melody, creating environments that can be both ethereal and abrasive. Through his foundational roles in Swans and Michael Gira's Angels of Light, alongside solo work and other collaborations, Hahn has defined a distinct approach to the instrument that shapes avant-garde rock.
