Michael Gira

Michael Gira

Michael Gira is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, celebrated as the founder and leader of the seminal experimental rock band Swans. Emerging from New York's No Wave scene, Gira's early work was defined by sonic brutality and confrontational themes, as heard on albums like 'Filth'. His artistic trajectory evolved dramatically, incorporating atmospheric textures, neofolk, and orchestrated arrangements, both in later Swans material and with his project Angels of Light. Through his independent label, #Young God Records#, he has maintained uncompromising artistic control, releasing his own work and mentoring artists like *Devendra Banhart* and *Akron/Family*, cementing his status as an influential and uncompromising figure in avant-garde music.
