Pat Patrick

Pat Patrick

A powerful and versatile baritone saxophonist, Pat Patrick was a foundational and near-lifelong member of the Sun Ra Arkestra. His robust and agile baritone sound was a cornerstone of the Arkestra's reed section from the 1950s onward. In addition to his work with Sun Ra, he was a co-founder of the Jazz Composers Workshop with Charles Mingus and did session work with Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane. His influence extends through his son, Deval Patrick, the former governor of Massachusetts.
