Peter Hook

Peter Hook

As the founding bassist for Joy Division and its successor New Order, Peter Hook defined a new role for the instrument in the post-punk era. [1, 3] His signature technique, characterized by high-register melodic lines often treated with a chorus effect, functionally elevated the bass from a rhythmic anchor to a lead voice. [1] This approach was integral to the atmospheric sound of Joy Division and the fusion of rock and electronic dance music New Order pioneered. [3, 7] Through his later work with projects like Peter Hook and The Light, he continues to perform and preserve the influential catalogs he co-created. [3, 5]
