Biography
Planet X was an American instrumental supergroup formed in 2000 by keyboardist Derek Sherinian and drummer Virgil Donati, growing out of Sherinian's solo album of the same name. With guitarists such as Tony MacAlpine and Brett Garsed passing through, the band recorded three studio albums, 'Universe', 'MoonBabies' and 'Quantum', of dense, virtuosic progressive metal and jazz fusion built on complex time signatures. Planet X remained active until about 2011, its records a benchmark for technical instrumental playing.
