Biography
The Quintette du Hot Club de France was an all-string jazz group formed in Paris in 1934 by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli, with Louis Vola on bass and Joseph Reinhardt and Roger Chaput on rhythm guitars. It recorded more than 130 studio titles between 1934 and 1948 for labels including #Decca Records# and #HMV#, creating the template for gypsy jazz. The classic quintet broke up at the outbreak of war in 1939, after which Reinhardt led a clarinet-fronted Nouveau Quintette until 1948.
