Biography
Sixto Diaz Rodriguez was an American folk-rock singer-songwriter who achieved legendary cult status under extraordinary circumstances. After his two early 1970s albums, 'Cold Fact' and 'Coming from Reality', failed commercially in the US, he quit music and worked in construction in Detroit, unaware that his records had become massively successful in other countries, particularly in apartheid-era South Africa where he was a cultural icon. His mysterious disappearance from the music scene led to rumors of his death. Decades later, he was rediscovered by fans, leading to a late-career renaissance celebrated in the Academy Award-winning documentary 'Searching for Sugar Man' (2012).
