Biography

Run-DMC was a pioneering hip-hop trio from Hollis, Queens, New York, composed of Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, and DJ Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell. Widely credited with bringing hip-hop to the mainstream, they were the first group in the genre to achieve a gold album with 'Run-D.M.C.' (1984), a platinum record with 'King of Rock' (1985), and multi-platinum status with 'Raising Hell' (1986). Their aggressive, rock-infused sound, minimalist beats, and signature style—black hats, leather jackets, and Adidas sneakers—defined a new era of hip-hop. Their groundbreaking 1986 collaboration with *Aerosmith* on "Walk This Way" shattered barriers between rock and rap, cementing their status as cultural icons.
