Biography
Smegma is a long-running American experimental collective formed in Pasadena in 1973 by Ju Suk Reet Meate as part of the Los Angeles Free Music Society. Its deliberately unmusical members improvised with tapes, homemade instruments and electronics, issuing records on #Pigface# and the #LAFMS# label. Based in Portland from the late 1970s, the group made 'Glamour Girl 1941', 'Pigs for Lepers' and many later albums and collaborations, appeared on the *Nurse With Wound* list, and continues today with a fluid line-up. Membership is intentionally open, so no fixed roster is recorded here.
