Biography
Steve Albini was a fiercely independent and influential musician, audio engineer, and music journalist. As a musician, he fronted the abrasive and pioneering noise-rock bands Big Black, Rapeman, and Shellac. As an engineer, he was renowned for his minimalist, analog recording philosophy, capturing the raw, unadulterated sound of bands. He famously rejected the title of "producer" and refused to take royalties, instead charging a flat fee for his work. Albini engineered thousands of albums, including iconic records like *Pixies*' 'Surfer Rosa', *Nirvana*'s 'In Utero', and *PJ Harvey*'s 'Rid of Me'. He founded Electrical Audio, his Chicago recording studio, in 1997, cementing his legacy as a champion of artistic integrity.
