System of a Down is an Armenian-American band from Glendale, California, celebrated for their highly unique and eclectic sound that defies easy categorization. Formed in 1994, the group blends alternative metal, hard rock, and avant-garde styles with strong influences from Armenian folk music. Their politically and socially charged lyrics address topics from the Armenian Genocide to the war on drugs. After gaining early attention, they achieved massive international success with their 2001 album 'Toxicity', released on #American Recordings# under producer *Rick Rubin*. Despite a lengthy hiatus, the band's five studio albums, including 'Mezmerize' and 'Hypnotize', maintain a powerful legacy for their innovation and uncompromising artistic vision.
