The Edge

Biography

The Edge (David Howell Evans, born August 8, 1961 in Barking, London) is the guitarist of *U2*, the Irish band he co-founded in Dublin in 1976. Raised in Ireland from infancy, he built a signature sound from echo, delay and spare, chiming guitar lines that defined records from 'Boy' to 'The Joshua Tree' and 'Achtung Baby'. A principal songwriter in the band alongside *Bono*, he has also sung backing and occasional lead vocals and played keyboards throughout *U2*'s career. His sole solo album is the 'Captive' film soundtrack of 1986.
