Biography
The London Jazz Composers Orchestra is a large jazz ensemble founded in London in 1970 by bassist and composer Barry Guy. Built as a band of soloists, it performs Guy's long-form compositions, in which detailed written structures frame collective improvisation. Its debut, 'Ode' from 1972, announced the approach, and later recordings such as 'Harmos', 'Theoria' and 'Three Pieces for Orchestra' for #Intakt Records# consolidated its reputation. Personnel rotates around a long-serving core, and the orchestra celebrated fifty years with anniversary performances in Krakow in 2020.
