Biography
The Proletariat are a punk band from southeastern Massachusetts, formed in 1980 and associated with the Boston hardcore scene while sounding quite unlike it: sparse, mid-tempo post-punk with Marxist lyrics, modelled on *Gang of Four* and *Sex Pistols*. Their albums 'Soma Holiday' (1983) and 'Indifference' (1985) are cult classics of American punk. The band split in 1985 and reformed in 2016 around singer Richard Brown, bassist Peter Bevilacqua and drummer Tom McKnight.
