Biography
American singer-songwriter from Gainesville, Florida, frontman of *Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers* and a member of the *Traveling Wilburys*. Petty's plainspoken songs — 'American Girl', 'Refugee', 'Free Fallin'', 'Wildflowers' — made him one of rock's most durable writers across the Heartbreakers' albums, his solo records 'Full Moon Fever' (1989, for #MCA Records#) and 'Wildflowers' (1994), and a late reunion of his first band, *Mudcrutch*. He died in 2017, days after a 40th-anniversary tour.
