Biography

Tomita was the performing name of Isao Tomita, a Japanese composer born in Tokyo in 1932 and a pioneer of electronic music. After a successful career scoring film and television, he turned to the Moog synthesizer and created richly coloured electronic realisations of classical works. 'Snowflakes Are Dancing', his 1974 album of Debussy on #RCA Victor#, earned four Grammy nominations, and albums such as 'The Planets' and 'Kosmos' defined 1970s space music. He remained active until his death in Tokyo in 2016.
