This compilation gathers Arsenio Rodr铆guez's Havana recordings for RCA Victor from the late 1940s and early 1950s, the sessions in which his expanded conjunto, with conga drum, piano and a three-trumpet front line, codified the son montuno. Rodr铆guez, blind from childhood and known as El Ciego Maravilloso, built the arrangements around his own tres playing, the rhythmic engine of the band.
