Album Notes & Community Reviews

This highly influential 2-on-1 CD reissue finally united Big Star's first two agonizingly overlooked studio albums on a single disc, sparking a massive critical reappraisal of the Memphis band. The music perfectly synthesizes the shimmering, acoustic folk-rock of The Byrds with the aggressive melodicism of the British Invasion. Championed endlessly by the 1980s indie-rock underground, this specific compilation is largely responsible for solidifying their reputation as the undisputed godfathers of power pop.
