Album Notes & Community Reviews

Gathering pivotal, incredibly vibrant recordings from the trumpeter's short-lived but highly influential Dee Gee label, this collection highlights the joyous, deeply humorous side of the bebop revolution. Featuring the charismatic scat singing of Joe Carroll alongside the leader's blistering horn work, the tracks brilliantly demystify the complex modern jazz idiom. The wildly entertaining, heavily rhythmic performances remain essential artifacts of his unparalleled ability to bridge high-art musicality with pure entertainment.
