Album Notes & Community Reviews
'Country Blues' assembles everything Dock Boggs recorded in the nineteen-twenties, eight Brunswick sides from 1927 and four for Lonesome Ace in 1929, together with alternate takes, in a hardcover package with a lengthy essay by Greil Marcus. Boggs, a Virginia coal miner who fingerpicked the banjo in a style learned from Black string bands, had two songs on Harry Smith's 'Anthology of American Folk Music'.
