The Best of Leonard Cohen

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Chronologicalizing his first four majestic studio albums, this compilation perfectly distills the profound, literary melancholy of the Canadian poet-turned-songwriter. Cohen's deeply resonant baritone vocal delivery is supported by sparse acoustic guitar picking and subtle choral arrangements, weaving heavily existential narratives regarding love, religion, and depression. It stands as an unimpeachable masterclass in lyricism and an essential gateway into his legendary early acoustic era.
