Album Notes & Community Reviews
Compiled from Amha-era recordings, 'Éthiopiques 4: Ethio jazz & musique instrumentale 1969-1974' was the first volume in the Éthiopiques series devoted to a single musician, gathering fourteen tracks led by Astatke's vibraphone. It opens with 'Yèkèrmo Sèw' and includes 'Tezeta' and 'Yègellé Tezeta', with Fèqadu Amdè-Mesqel and Girma Hadgu each contributing one track. The reissue carried Astatke to an international audience, and seven of his songs were later featured in Jim Jarmusch's film Broken Flowers.
