Album Notes & Community Reviews
Sublime Frequencies compiled this first Western release from the cassettes Souleyman had issued in Syria, drawn from a catalogue of more than five hundred mostly live wedding recordings that circulated through music kiosks. A Syrian wedding singer specialising in a high-octane form of dabke, he had scored a folk hit across the Arab world with 'Khataba' in 2005, and the compilation's success, amplified by the online reaction to the 'Leh Jani' video, led to his first tour outside the Arab world in 2009 with keyboardist Rizan Sa'id and saz player Ali Shaker.
